About Us

Dan – Founder and Lead Solo Explorer

My name is Dan. Originally from New Zealand, I now live in Australia. I have a passion for all things outdoor. I love to seek adventure in everything I do.

I am a civil engineer, travel writer, photographer and outdoor enthusiast. And that is a the reason I started the Unmapped Path.

Growing up with a large exteneded family, I was always retold travels from afar. From getting souveniers from far away lands or reciveing a postcard of a foreign vista. Travel is in my blood.

My Travels

My first major overseas trip after leaving school was with a friend to Thailand. Branching out from there I did a ski season in Canada which also took me to the USA. At this point I realised that my travel days were not a one off adventure. Rather an evolving way of doing life. My travels have taken me to each continent, spanning more than 50 countries and counting.

Some of the highlights include hiking the Tour Du Mont Blanc solo. Watching the football world cup in Russia. I can’t forget travelling through the Balkans and visiting Albania (still one of my favourite countries to date). Time spent sailing around remote parts of Fiji. Countelss snow trips to countries such as Japan, Austria, Italy and NZ to name a few.

All this travel, whether solo or with others has seasoned me into the traveller I am today. My solo travel experiences have built up over the years. They only reinforce one thing. My love of travelling solo. There is something truly unique about charting your own path each day while travelling solo.
